Wellness in the workplace
The problem :
Modern lifestyles led in the developed world are more frenetic than ever before and stress is now described as a ‘world wide epidemic’ by the World Health Organisation.
The industry pays out millions of pounds every year covering workers who take time off due to stress-related illness, which more and more people are suffering from. This includes back problems, repetitive strain injuries and other postural and physical issues. Sitting at workstations for long periods of time can really exacerbate these issues.
Clothed massage is a really effective way of offering the benefits of massage in the workplace and a growing number of businesses are now providing this facility to their employees as part of an overall well-being programme.
‘The need: Staff want to feel valued, motivated, engaged and happy in their work and recognised for what they do’
Bringing in outside professionals can prove prohibitively expensive for larger organisations. Therapy companies have to be booked in advance, often can’t change the dates to fit around your ever changing calendars and meeting room availability and have a minimum booking time. These were the problems encountered during our 14 years of running an on site massage company.
A fifteen minute massage for 100 staff once a month will cost a minimum of £1,200 from an outside agency making it expensive for many companies who would love to provide the service. Many companies ask their employees to pay which excludes some of those most in need.
The solution:
Bring qualified trainers in to teach staff volunteers to provide Indian Head clothed massage treatments at a fraction of the cost. The advantages being that staff can be more time and date flexible, there is no need for a money exchange, it breaks down barriers as staff are working on and with one another, can be performed more regularly and can appeal to those more altruistically motivated. It gives the giver a sense of satisfaction and some time away from the work routine.
Indian Head Massage also includes neck, shoulders, upper back, arms and face.
How it works
Option 1: Volunteers will undertake a workshop, 1 day format where their fully qualified therapy teacher will teach them a ‘stress busting’ Indian head massage routine that they are able to use on colleagues, friends and family. This is not certificated and won’t give them a qualification. Prices start at £400 per day
Option 2: Obtain a GTI cert in Indian Head Massage, meeting National Occupational Standards. Upon completion students will be fully qualified to work in the industry and have a transferable and valuable skill. Volunteers undertake ‘time flexible’ online study at home, during which their fully qualified therapy teacher will spend 2 days teaching them the practical and theory elements of Indian Head Massage.
Prices start at £450 per day
